Did a bit ofgoogling and no, the mirrors are at the door. :) midcycle hiluxes of this generation has their mirrors at the fenders and signals were moved at the leading edge of the hood.

I would have sworn this was something Toyota did for one year to meet U.S. requirements while they got their shit together. But it turns out they used these for several years.
